Private Road Approvals
A private road is any road or street that is privately maintained and has not been accepted for maintenance by the Isabella County Road Commission, the State of Michigan or the federal government, but is subject to approval by the Township. This includes any road or street designated or described as a private road, private street, or similar designation in a legal description, easement, or right-of-way, or on a certified survey, subdivision plat, condominium master deed, or final site plan or other private road development plan as approved by the Township under the ordinances in effect at the time of approval.
Existing and new private roads in the Township are subject to the requirements of the Township’s Private Road Ordinance No. 24-01. Approval of a Private Road Permit is required for construction, alteration, or extension of a private road. Application shall be made by filing with the Township at least eleven (11) paper copies and one (1) digital copy (in a format compatible with Township systems) of a complete and accurate application, along with the required review fee and escrow deposit.
